Description / Descriptive

CANTO OSTINATO embarks on an ephemeral path through time and invites the audience to immerse itself in a meditative ritual confronting it with a notion of collective and individual time. For 4 hours, 3 hours, 2 hours or 1 hour, following step by step the hypnotic music of the Dutch composer Simeon Holt Ten, CANTO OSTINATO, the duet is being carried away in a minimalist trance. In the digital age where everything goes fast, images, meetings, shares, connections, time seems to be running out. Thus, in a modified space-time, the interpreters and the public give themselves the right to take the time, to discover themselves, they follow each other, unite, escape, challenge each other, meet, search, defy, loose each other, cross paths, … in a very simple task of an infinite walking littered with variations. The CANTO OSTINATO performance is intended to be a pilgrimage through time where the spectators are faced with human relations the performers embodies. They enter a state of heightened presence. This presence at every gesture, at every impulse allows to remain malleable throughout the performance, to be permeable instead and to dive deeper into the listening of the interpreters. Every action and every choice become clear and mobile because the experience is evolutionary leaving room for spontaneity and discovery. During each performance, the performers enter the cadence at their own pace through the basic structure, walking. It becomes more complex as they play with 106 movement systems that they can use as they wish, linked to the 106 repetition cells that evolve through the musical piece.

CANTO OSTINATO reveals the unexpected but significant specificities of each place, offers a new vision of the city and the work that adapts to it, and plays an active role with space. In this context of in situ dance we better understand the links that unite the site with the dancers, the dancers to the public, the audience to the site. The spectator becomes a participant in the act of creation which calls into question not only the frontality of the theatre, but also the functional and social space of the city. With CANTO OSTINATO we leave the studio to intervene in the urban or rural environment, a public square, an alley, a hall, a park, a church, a beach, a forest, a museum, a metro station, a field, a river, then, once on the spot, we deposit a unique signature in the space and on the intuition that it arouses. During this real marathon of 4h the performance then becomes a kind of transcendent folklore. Performers become the music that follows them no matter where they are, thanks to speakers integrated into their belts. They evolve through 4 parts predetermined by the task but the locations of which are determined the day before the performance so that the performance is as impregnated as possible of the spatial context.

Vision artistique / Artistic statement

Human dichotomy, its composing opposite forces, the tension we embody, are for me the greatest  spectrum of possibilities to explore. My practice evolves around the vulnerability of the Being, its hidden cracks under the flesh, i try to exhume to explore. Internal conflicts, questions, doubts, responsabilities and consequences of our actions, towards ourselves and society, to me represent a fascinating playground for body language research. This abundance of moral dualities gives way to a sensitivity charged emotion, between fragility and frenzy. Choreographer and dancer in contemporary dance, master graduate in literature but also a passionate in history and mythology, i often discern in there the bases of my creations. My aesthetic as well as my artistic statement find their roots in those eternal stories or characters. My literature and history background lead my practice to the construction of complex and percussive images in a shape spatial architecture. Always looking for the organicity of the body in the choreographic construction, i compose with the intuition of the body facing the images. A quest of identity emmerge, materializing the different intimate struggles in one’s body and spirit to find a balance
